Shift Leader

The shift leader is responsible for front of house operations.   

Primary Duties:

  • Meets and exceeds guest satisfaction by ensuring staff follows customer service and operational standards, policies and procedures.  Effectively manage shift.   Achieve 90+% on mystery shops and operational audits.
  • Optimizes profits by increasing sales through great guest service and reducing costs by ensuring efficient staffing levels and controlling waste.
  • Ensures high standards by ensuring quality operations including adherence to safety, sanitation, break, meal policy, cash management and point of sales management policies.
  • Coordinates effectively with Kitchen Manager and/or Expo for a great guest experience.

Major Areas of Responsibility

·         Leads and manages shift personnel.  Manages all Front of House personnel – servers, sales personnel, and bussers.  Ensures personnel follow service flow and other company policies.

·         Ensures great guest experience by ensuring all elements of the company service standards are followed.

·         Ensures shift is properly and efficiently staffed.

·         Constantly coordinates with Kitchen Manager and/or Expo to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

·         Notifies General Manager, Kitchen Manager and Expo on any guest’s satisfaction, operational food quality, sanitation, cleanliness and/or safety issues.  Ensures issues are resolved promptly.   Proactively communicates with management and team on issues.

·         All cash management and Point of Sale management procedures are followed. 

·         Manages employee breaks in accordance with policies.

·         Ensures meal policy is followed at all times.

·         Provides verbal and written feedback on employee’s performance.  Coordinate with General Manager and Human Resources as needed.

·         Ensures efficient and adequate staffing – add/reduces staff as needed to ensure customer service procedures are followed and labor targets are met.  Minimizes overtime.  Coordinates closely with General Manager.    Follows schedules and provides input to GM with needed changes.

·         Orders food and liquor items as required.

·         Identifies opportunities to improve guest experience, operations and staffing.

·         Approves all food or beverage comps or refunds when General Manager is not present.

·         Trains employees as directed and according to policies.

·         Ensures safe environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents.  Completes accident reports promptly in the event a guest or employee is injured.

·         Ensures proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests and company assets.

·         Ensures all other company policies are followed during shift.

·         Ensure shift scores well on mystery shops and audits (90+%).  All opportunities and issues are corrected and shift operates according to standard on a consistent basis.

Qualifications:

-          Restaurant leadership experience – previous shift management required.  Must have a record of leading a team to achieve service standards on a consistent basis, coordinate effectively with kitchen team members, and work well with management.  Can manage multiple tasks during a shift.

-          Communication skills – can communicate effectively and in a timely manner with management, staff and guests.

-          Organization skills – Can organize team with clear expectations and tasks.  Follows up with team to ensure standards are followed.  Ensures restaurant is well organized.  Can manage administration.

-          Time Management Skills – Knows what needs to be done and how to get it done, as well as where he or she needs to be and when. Completes all their tasks in a timely manner.

-          Building morale - Strives daily to make their team happy about working at restaurant, and shift leader works hard to create a fun and safe working environment.  Can provide disciplinary action when needed based on company policies.

-          Record of achieving results and following procedures.

-          Customer Service Skills – can engage with guests providing great customer service.  Leads and trains team to provide outstanding service.  Can provide excellent service recovery.

-          Training – can train team to provide great service and execute procedures according to standards on a consistent basis.

-          Labor and break management – can manage labor and breaks according to a budget and procedures.
